G.P.P.R. Fall 2011

If you haven’t heard of G.P.P.R. before, consider this your wake-up call. Started by Bam Barcena, husband of the designer of LA-based women’s streetwear brand Hellz Bellz, G.P.P.R. stands for the Gentleman, the Philosopher, the Pervert, and the Rebel.

The Gentleman, the Philosopher, the Pervert, the Rebel: all aspects of an amalgam, a single entity, a man. His multifaceted personality is by no means compartmentalized; as these four aspects of his personality are intertwined with one another, present in each action he takes:

Chivalrous and proper, He knows being a man does not require oneself to constantly exhibit obvious signs of strength, disregarding all civility; he walks the line between grace and machismo.

Progressive and probing, he constantly questions the present state of affairs, asking the simple yet all encompassing question “Why?”. He does not view the world in black and white, not even in shades of grey. He understands that the world is comprised of a veritable amount of colors the likes of which many cannot comprehend. He is relentless in his perennial quest for knowledge and, inescapably, truth.

Indulgent and excessive, he embraces his lust for women. He embodies the male libido, pursuing his desires for intimacy and sexuality. He venerates the female figure, seeing it as the pinnacle of creation. He does not subscribe to the Puritanical views of sex as squalid act, but believes it to be the purest form of passion.

Subversive and defiant, he refuses to assimilate into the common bourgeoisie. He embraces his dissidence, choosing neither the road less travelled nor the tried and true, but carving his own path, knowing few if any will follow. He realizes the value of originality, that it begins with insubordination and blossoms into individuality.

He is the modern Renaissance Man, an old-fashioned soul in modern times. He is the polymath of versatility; a man of gentility, truth, lust, and individuality. He is G.P.P.R. We are G.P.P.R.

Check out their new Fall 2011 collection, aptly named the Gentleman’s Club, here.
